Cesar de Cesar Netto MD, PhD, is an orthopedic surgeon specialized in foot and ankle surgery. He received his medical education and initial training at the University of Sao Paulo (USP), in Sao Paulo-SP, Brazil, which included medical school, orthopedic surgery residency, foot and ankle surgery clinical fellowship, and a PhD.
After practicing foot and ankle surgery for four years and working as youth team physician for the Brazilian Soccer Club Sport Club Corinthians Paulista (SCCP), he moved to the United States to serve as a Research Fellow at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore. He then performed three more clinical fellowships in orthopedic foot and ankle surgery at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS), and Medstar Union Memorial Hospital.
In his research, de Cesar Netto has studied multiple pathologies of the foot and ankle, with focus on flatfoot deformity, Achilles tendinopathy and advanced imaging of the foot and ankle (weight bearing computed tomography and metal artifact reduction magnetic resonance).
Now, as a faculty member, de Cesar Netto is focused on taking great care of patients, teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, and fellows, and collaborating on continuous development of foot and ankle surgery research.
