I have drop foot from a back surgery. I was hoping the brace would keep my ankle from rolling when I walk and it would be better then my AFO. It didn't work and caused swelling to the inside of my lower leg. I know my foot problem was not what the brace was intended for but I was hoping it would be a better alternative than my AFO.
My son struggled with sprained ankles during last year's basketball season. I bought him a right ankle brace this season to prevent sprains. So far, so good! Unfortunately now he sprained his other ankle, so I had to quickly order him the left brace as well, so now he's sporting both braces on each ankle, but seems to prevent any more sprains, so thank you that he can keep playing!
Thanks so much for sharing, Mary! We're sorry to hear your son sprained his other ankle, but we're glad his AthleticX Braces are keeping him supported and playing. Wishing him a strong rest of the basketball season!
I ordered a replacement strap for an athletic X brace strap that goes over the top of the shoe. The strap is half the length of the original. It does not work. I called and left a message. No response I’d appreciate hearing from you.
I suffered a severe injury to my ankle (comminuted fractures to Talus, Navicular, Cuboid, Calcaneus, and neck fracture to the Fibula) with tendon and nerve injuries and had progressed from a wheelchair through a walking boot. Unfortunately, I still needed support to walk and was recommended to use an ankle brace with a cane by my surgeon. I ended up locating the AthleticX by searching online for something on the outside of the shoe as the inside the shoe was too bulky with the swelling in my foot. I chose this one because I didn't feel like I needed the full leg support of the other variants and wanted to get back to as much activity as possible. I have used it for about 2 -1/2 months now and couldn’t be more pleased. It’s been a tremendous help in my mobility. There is a noticeable difference for me with and without the brace from a pain management standpoint. The AthleticX brace provides ample support where my pain is the most severe in the sub-talar joint and significantly helps with my pain levels, although swelling is still a problem even with the brace. I can last a full day on my feet with the brace and about an hour without it before the joint pain becomes an issue. The only thing I would change is to have more padding in the ankle area due to the atrophy in my calf. I would absolutely purchase again and feel blessed to have it for my treatment.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and for trusting TayCo Brace during such a challenging recovery, Andy. We’re truly glad to hear the AthleticX Brace has helped restore your mobility, manage pain, and keep you on your feet throughout the day. Wishing you continued strength and progress as you get back to the activities you love.
Thanks for sharing your feedback, Kathleen. We’re sorry to hear the brace wasn’t the right fit for your needs. Every injury and recovery path is different, and what works well for some may not be ideal for others. If you’re open to it, our team would be happy to learn more about your situation and help explore fit adjustments, alternative options, or next steps. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to customer support so we can try to make this right.
My daughter is very active, will not pause a moment for pain, so we knew it was bad when she said she couldn't go to practice.
Varsity High school and travel team pitcher, currently being recruted. This was poor timing for shin splints to show up, but level 3 on an MRI they did (level 4 is stress fracture). We had to act quick. After just one day she was in love with this brace that allowed her to play an entire "rec-league" basketball game. Now my 14 yr old athletic son wants one as well cause it looks "sick". Looking forward to the stability it provides.
Thank you for the wonderful review, Corina! We’re so glad your daughter is feeling supported and able to stay on the court safely with the AthleticX Brace. It’s great to hear she felt the difference after just one day, especially during such an important season for her. We’re wishing her a smooth recovery and a strong year ahead. Hopefully your son doesn't end up needing one, but we'll be here if he does :)
I can not express how much of a difference my TayCo AthleticX Brace has made in one short week!! After a trimalleoar fracture with dislocation, surgery, 4 screws, and a lengthy non-weight bearing recovery period, I am finally confident with my ankle stability and walking safely! The 3 1/2 months between my fall and finding the TayCo AthleticX brace was stressful... wondering how I would recover & rehab safely from this injury. I had minimal guidance from my doctor regarding a 'next step' brace once I could stop using the awkward & uncomfortable CAM Boot. The 'inside-the-shoe' brace options were either flimsy, poorly constructed, didn't fit, or did nothing to support the joint or boost my confidence so that I could safely rehab & recover as winter approached.
Then one night, there they were.... The TayCo AthleticX and the RecoverX. I went back & forth about which to order, and Kelly was amazing answering my various questions regarding fit, as well as ensuring my order arrived in advance of my next ortho appointment! I chose the AthleticX because of the fit details (height of side uprights were a better fit for me. As soon as I put the brace on, I knew it was different, and the perfect solution to ensure a great recovery!
The stirrup strap was easy to set/adjust and it fits very securely along the bottom of several pairs of shoes. The series of 3 straps are perfectly placed, providing great support and easy adjustability should my foot swell during/after PT or activity. The strap lengths are AMAZING! This has been a huge sticking point for me as I was 'blessed' with generous ankles & calves.... LOL! The strap across the top of the foot has plenty of room to adjust for many different shoes, or snow boots, and the 2 ankle straps are more than sufficient for a comfortable and supportive fit! And Kelly made sure I knew that the longer straps from the RecoverX brace could always be substituted should the original ones not fit.
My physical therapist, doctor, chiropractor, and even a brace/prosthetics specialist were all impressed with the design and the support. I have made amazing strides in physical therapy since starting to use the AthletcX, and my physical therapist is more than happy with the support, and confidence, this brace has given me. My chiropractor is thrilled to see me out of the boot and into a brace which allows for proper alignment in my hips, low back, knees, and encourages a natural gait. He's even looking into getting one for himself! While my ankle is still regaining strength, flexibility, and mobility, and there is still pain, I am overall feeling so much better, both physically and mentally! My body no longer aches because of awkward gait & misalignment. My confidence when walking, even with winter weather, is 100% because of the support from the AthleticX. And because my body is doing better and I'm able to do more, my mental health is so much better!!
A complex ankle fracture takes a toll on your mind and soul. It impacts every aspect of your life... and can stretch your patience, determination, and confidence. Any bit of independence you can reclaim, no matter how small, makes a huge difference in your recovery. And having the RecoverX on my ankle has been the biggest difference!
Thank you so much TayCo Brace!!!
Wow. Thank you so much for sharing your story, Janet! We’re thrilled to hear how much confidence and comfort the braces have brought you during recovery. It’s fantastic to know your care team sees the difference too. We’re cheering you on as you continue rebuilding strength and getting back to the things you love!
Once the brace is on it is comfortable and feels very supportive …however getting it on properly is a different story, at least for me. You have to bend the side of foot brace outwards to get the first velcro strap into the slot to tighten over the top of your foot…which messes up the heal position of the shoe. The second and third straps going across your calf easily tangle and the velcro straps stick to each other often….when getting them apart you detach the straps from the brace itself making you have to start all over again….no fun.
I am sure with more use I will get better at putting the brace on, but I now dread using it due to the difficulty I am having putting it on properly….I have to give myself extra time before leaving for activities….
My experience and you asked….

I have been struggling for almost a year with achilles issues. I experience acute pain with every step I take, the sac on the back of my ankle is swollen and I get shooting burning pain that radiates from the back of my foot down the side. I was in a walking boot that made everything worse and was developing issues with my hips. I need surgery but due to the length of time needed for recovery and rehab , it is not a viable option for me as my mom requires 24hr care. My doctor seeing no improvement from current treatment of my condition and instead I was now suffering from the adverse effects of the traditional walking boot. In consideration of my particular predicament, the doctor focused on pain management for my continued treatment. Enter the Tayco XAB brace. As soon as I put it on, I felt more stable and it was easier to walk. As I continued to acclimate to the brace I found myself able to accomplish normal tasks again. As time goes on, my physical abilities and stamina continue to increase. In September I was able to return to bowl in our bowling league of forty plus years.Don't get me wrong, I can't walk the 5 miles a day I used to and my bowling average is lower than it used to be but this brace has allowed me to function and participate and enjoy life.
I don't wear shoes in the house, hence no brace, causing inflammation, aggravation and pain by days end. It was more than evident how much difference this little brace can make in one's life so I bought a new pair of sketchers slip-ins and a new Tayco Recovery brace which is almost identical to the XAB brace I got from the doctor to wear in the house. The straps could be improved and take a little getting used to but the premise of this brace is ingenious and I would recommend it to anyone with foot/ankle troubles.
Thank you for sharing your experience, Joelle! We’re so glad your braces have given you stability, reduced your pain, and helped you get back to daily activities and even your bowling league. That’s exactly what we hope for when someone is struggling with the limitations of a traditional walking boot.
We appreciate your feedback on the straps and will keep it in mind as we continue improving. Thank you again for the recommendation and for trusting TayCo Brace as part of your recovery. If you ever need support, we’re here to help.
Thank you for this brace. It is working great from keeping my ankle from rolling over. It is comfortable to walk in. I give it a “10”.

After 4 ankle surguries in just under a year I really wanted to get back to basketball and immediately after putting this brace on I could run better with less pain. Although it didn’t eliminate all the pain it sure helps a lot! So thankful this brace will get me through basketball season!
Thank you for the fantastic review, Addy! We’re really glad to hear the AthleticX Brace is helping you get back on the court after such a tough stretch of surgeries. Wishing you a strong, healthy basketball season ahead!
The big clunky boot was giving me more back pain due to the uneven foot height. The over the shoe boot allowed me to compete in a sheep herding competition in the field.
My only complaint is my ankle bone is very sore after wearing the brace. Please send me any solutions to increase the comfort level.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your review, Fern! We're so happy to hear it helped you compete. Our customer support team will reach out individually to see if we can help provide any tips to improve comfort.

I had surgery in 2017 to reconstruct the ankle. Surgery was successful but as time has gone on it is not as stable as it was. I purchased the TayCo brace and wear it during the day. It has brought a quality of life I haven’t had for awhile. I am 70 yrs old and I enjoy walking again!! The only negative is that when the brace is tightened the upper two straps dig into my leg. The hard part needs to extend past the metal strapping for the straps.
Thank you for sharing your story, Ken! We are truly glad to hear that the AthleticX Brace has helped bring back stability and made walking enjoyable again. Improving quality of life for people recovering from injury is exactly why TayCo Brace exists. We wish you many more walks ahead!
We also appreciate your feedback with the straps! It's extremely valuable as we continue to refine our designs.
Thank you for taking the time to leave your 5-star review, Casey!
The TayCo Athletic X Over-the-Shoe Ankle Brace provided excellent support for my injured ankle. I highly recommend it.
Thank you, Gerard! We’re glad to hear the AthleticX Brace delivered the support your ankle needed.
I had been in a boot for 9 weeks when I discovered this brace through some friends who had the AthletiX one. Customer service and the medical advisors answered my more complicated questions so I took a chance to help with an Achilles recovery. Glad I did
Thank you for the review, Georgie! We are glad to hear the RecoverX Brace has been a helpful step after so much time in a boot. Our team will be happy to know their support made a difference while you were weighing your options. Thank you for trusting TayCo Brace.
I have two Tayco ankle braces - the sport model and the rehab model. The rehab model provides more support, but the sport model is easier to wear. However, both braces are not able to correct for pronation or supination problems. Have you ever considered inserts to help with this? Thank you! William Root
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, William! We also appreciate the feedback and our customer service team will follow-up with ideas to help provide you greater support.
I bought this for my wife who broke her ankle and was in a boot. The change to the TayCo athletic brace has given her a whole new outlook. With crutches she is re-learning how to walk. Wearing her own sneakers is a huge game changer. Thank you.
We’re so glad to hear this has been such a confidence booster for your wife. Being able to transition out of the boot and back into her own shoes is a big step, and we’re thrilled the AthleticX Brace has made such a difference in her recovery. Thank you for sharing her story, Olaf! Wishing her the best.
Great product that helped get our son back on the field much faster! We will highly recommend to anyone should they need one! Thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing, Tom! We’re thrilled to hear your son was able to get back on the field faster with the AthleticX Brace. 💪
Thought it might be heavy & cumbersome, but was surprisingly light & comfortable, but still offered support. Would recommend for light injuries or recovery
Thank you, Mia! We’re glad to hear the brace felt lighter and more comfortable than expected while still providing the support you needed. We appreciate your recommendation and wish you continued progress in your recovery!
My specific problem was not addressed completely by the brace but it is well-made and provides good stability.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback and review, John!
