Since this brace isn’t technically ’for’ my condition, I wanted to share my experience with anyone who may be unsure. I’m actually living on disability, so I understand that $200 is a big commitment for some.

First off, a bit of background. I suffered a stroke four years ago that left me with spastic hemiplegia in my right side. Because of this, my right foot supinates. I saw ‘foot drop’ in the list of conditions this device was intended for but while going through the reviews I saw the magic ‘s’ word and decided to give it a shot… and I’m so glad I did.

The first brace I tried was your typical fixed AFO. After a few months I upgraded to one with an articulated ankle, which was great for maintaining muscle but both of them went inside the shoe and the platform covered my entire sole limiting the tactile information passed to my brain. Because of this I tried the SaeboStep. This offered me the option of wearing it with any shoe and gave me the tactile sensation that my brain craved. However it had limited range of motion and because it hooked to anchors installed in the eyeholes on the tops of a given shoe it would pull my toes to the end. Then I discovered this brace.

Not only can I wear several shoe types with it - my preference is a pair of barefoot style shoes - it offers the tactical sensation I’m looking for. Because it holds the back of my foot it allows for foot flexibility making walking backwards, up and down stairs and even sideways much easier. I’ve spent the last four years trying every device I can find and I can assure you that this is my favorite so far. It’s lightweight, comfortable and very functional. Maybe not the easiest to don and doff one-handed but as I mentioned above, this device isn’t exactly intended for my condition.

I cannot tell you how glad I am that I tried this device. ‘Life-changing’ is not an exaggeration by any means.

Finally, I am able to resume activity without fear of injuring myself. The brace literally makes it impossible to turn my ankle unexpectedly. Thank you!

Very happy with this product!!! The boot was really bothering me not being able to flex my foot at all and overall I just could not walk in a boot that was almost to my knee. This product got me moving faster and better on the crutches after a crushed ankle. Thank you!

Love this ankle brace. Lighter but still provides support. This brace gives my ankle more flex movement. Love that I can wear my normal tennis shoes.

I started with the gray brase, then moved on to the black brase. Use the gray brase for protection when taking part in construction work. Just started wearing the black on for walking arround. They are both great. Very satisfied.

Hi, I have a torn achilles and was hoping this would help prevent Dorsey Flextion.
If it had something to go under the heel of my shoe it might work.
I only tried it at my house, it’s in new condition and I would like to return.
Can you please tell me how to do this.

I like the lightweight design of the brace. It walks better than the other briaces that I have tried. Using my own shoe and not having my hips displaced because of height differences is a definate plus. My only complaint is that it is slow to put on and take off because of all the straps. Further, because of its dependence on straps, the fit varies every time I put it on due to subtle differences in the way I adjust it. After about two weeks of using it, I feel like I am still trying to get the fit dialed.

I fractured my 5th metatarsal 3 weeks before I was scheduled to circumnavigate Iceland. I did have to modify some of my excursions, but the brace fit nicely on my ankle hiking boots and gave me the stability and confidence to enjoy my trip. Thanks so much!

I had surgery on left foot. This is great. It gives the support to work.

I purchased the ActiveX brace in hopes I could return to golf after tearing my peronial longus and brevis tendons and cartilage. Early stage of combining a Trilock brace for fine support and the ActiveX brace over it to limit lateral inversion and eversion seems to be working. I have significant reduction in pain allowing me to play golf again and indicating I am no longer causing additional damage to the tendons. My Pediotrist is following my ongoing results using the brace.

Roughly 7 weeks before a Disney World trip, my Achilles Tendon had a complete separation. We are rope drop to park close Disney people and I was not messing up this trip for my family.

I was scheduled for no weight for 2 weeks and a walking cast for 3. I immediately started searching for an immobilization boot that went over a shoe. Turns out the RecoverX is the only one. With the timespan we had, I was unable to find a sneaker where the strap would be completely off the ground, and fit it to my hiking boot.

Because any brace deforms the leg, and we do a lot in Disney (averaged over 8 miles a day) I alternated between the standard boot and the RecoverX each day. (We nicknamed the RecoverX "The Robocop." It supported and protected my ankle throughout the entire trip, and was far more comfortable for standing on line, and sitting at restaurants than the standard boot.

Wearing my own shoe did cushion my foot better, but the fact that the standard boot had a curved bottom meant learning to walk in the RecoverX had more of a learning curve. Once I mastered it, i was just as fast in both. Plus the RecoverX was lighter, putting less strain on my leg, and more water resistant.

Customer service for my near infinite questions before putting in an order was impeccable as well.

The doctor said I didn't need the boot anymore about a week after we returned. However, I shifted the RecoverX to allow ankle flexing and use if for days I need to walk a large amount (Museum and zoo visits or hiking trail) or I want extra protection from large crowds.

There is no way I would have been able to do the Disney trip in a regular boot without the rest of that foot and leg being in excruciating pain by the end. Thanx to everyone involved.

Bought this for my husband now that he’s up and walking after full ankle replacement surgery and it is the BEST! He loves it! And he feels protected and stable while he’s wearing it. Thank you!!

The brace is lightweight and very convenient to fit over existing shoes but did not offer the support or strength I desired to move from a boot to take care of my torn Achilles tendon. I'm sure it works fine for an ankle injury.

I am a long time TayCo user and advocate. I have written a very positive testimonial to the excellence of TayCo products and the staff at TayCo. Unfortunately the ones I just purchased did not work out. The lower strap continually came undone. I tried multiple means of securing it. I think my size 14 EEE was too much for the style of the brace. I continue to use my Acute XAB Braces and they are wonderful. TayCo braces, as I indicated in my testimonial, greatly enhanced my quality of life.....giving me pain-free mobility.

Besides having a grade 2 sprain of the talofibular tendon, I also havedamage to the Medial Talar Dome. The ankle braces I was using directly on my ankle applied pressure to those areas and it was painful after a while. Your brace supports the ankle higher up and has no pressure on the Dome. Its a lot more comfortable! Walked a mile and a half yesterday with only a little discomfort at the end. Note, it also fits both my running shoe and my hiking boots which is great!

This is the 2nd brace I've bought because I truly Love this brace. It gives my ankle the necessary support as well as piece of mind. The convenience of having it outside the shoe makes wearing it extremely comfortable. The support is amazing! Great Brace!

I have peroneal tendonitis and posterior tibial tendonitis, and was advised to wear a boot. I tried this, hoping to avoid leg-length discrepancy problems. However, when I wore the Tayco brace instead of the walking boot, I experienced pain in my heel, so I had to go back to the boot. It was worth a try. Still giving 4 stars because it seems to do what it claims to do, which is support the ankle well. There must be something the boot is giving me that the Tayco brace can't.

My ankle brace went above and beyond, but I expected my right ankle is getting stronger due to my multiple sclerosis. This brace is exactly what my ankle needed. Do not hesitate to purchase one if you’re in need!!

This is the third brace/cast that I have used for my foot with a fractured bone and the TayCo is the best

I'm a downhill skateboarder. I have broken my ankles many times. This product gives me the confidence to keep pushing myself. Griptape might pose a problem for the longevity of the bottom strap, but overall, im very satisfied.

This replacement to a walking boot is perfect! Easy to put on over my athletic footwear and is every bit as effective as a CAM walker, comfortable too! I had an issue with the first brace I received but I got a quick response to my inquiry and a replacement brace was sent next day. Outstanding customer service! Thank you!
