I suffer from diabetic neuropathy, foot drop, and ankle inversion due to damaged ligaments. I have tried prescription orthotic and braces which we cumbersome and not very effective , especially on uneven surfaces. This brace has helped with walking on grass and it's design allows free normal flexion and extention of the ankle. While providing stury lateral support. Since its an over the shoe design, my foot has the lateral support I need. My gait, while not normal, has significantly improved. My balance has improved since.I no longer have to worry about my foot shifting in my shoe, potentially leading to lose of balance and fear of falling. Best money I have spent!
I fell and broke my left fibula (just above the ankle) back in early December, which required a walking boot to be worn for over 7 weeks. With the holidays and winter weather (we live in central Indiana), the walking boot given to me from my Orthopedic doctor was heavy and cumbersome to use, especially with trying to walk around with ice, salt, and snow and busy holiday activities.
Honestly, being able to use the RecoverX brace was a life saver. It was very simple to put on, fit easily over my shoe, and allowed me to wear two of the same shoes. I had started to have hip and back pain from trying to find shoes that would match the walking boot height, but the pain was relieved by using the RecoverX brace and wearing my normal shoes together. I mostly used the RecoverX while inside due to the snow and ice.
I took both the RecoverX and Athletic brace with me to my follow up Orthopedic appointment. My doctor was very impressed with the design and the fact that you can wear the braces over your regular shoes. She was so fascinated by them that she took the braces to show to her colleagues! She told me to wear the Athletic brace once I was out of the walking boot. She said she was going to give me a corset style brace that would go inside my shoe but thought this would be better (and it has been).
I am currently using the Athletic brace as my leg continues to heal. Like the RecoverX, it’s easy to use and fits with my normal shoes. I’ve been wearing it whenever I’m out of the house, doing activities, and exercising. It’s comfortable enough to wear all day and I’m at the point that I forget I have it on. I HIGHLY recommend both braces for anyone dealing with recovery from an injury or needing a walking boot. They have been a life safer!
Straps #1 and 2 are too short?? No place on website to order supplies? I am supplementing myself from craft store….. hope it works
Hi, David - Thank you for reaching out. We can absolutely send longer straps to you! We'll follow-up with an email to help get you squared away.
I like this brace so much better than a walking boot. Wearing my regular work boot is much more comfortable and allows me to keep my foot dry and warm when walking in the snow. My only issue with this brace is that I am not able to get everything tight enough to completely immobilize my ankle. (my achiles tendon was ripped off my calf muscle). If I get the straps tight enough to lock everything down the straps cause pain. Overall, its probably tight enough for my needs, it just allows a little more movement than I expected.
Thank you for taking the time to share your review, Jason! We're glad you've found it helpful to support your achilles injury and wish you the best of luck in your recovery process.
