I think this brace will work but I’m concerned about the strap that goes under the shoe. I’ll be wearing the brace with shoes that don’t have cleats, if the strap wears out can the strap be replaced?
That’s great to hear, Vickey! The strap that runs under the shoe is reinforced with Kevlar—so while it may wear down over time like a shoe sole, it shouldn’t break. If it ever does, just let us know and we’ll replace it for free.
After surgery on my ankle my doctor recommended an over the shoe brace. I chose the Tayco Brace. It helps support my ankle yet lets in flex. I have only been using it a little over a week but am pleased with the way it works. once fitted for the shoe it's easy on and off.

Much smaller than a walking boot, this brace allows the comfort and convenient of wearing regular shoes, yet still achieving the fixed 90 degree angulation needed for healing. In addition, it can be adjusted to allow limited movement for transitioning into full articulation. (Great for driving, whereas a standard walking boot may be too wide to hit the brake pedal without also simultaneously pressing the accelerator.

the velcro straps are not long enough

I had a classic walking boot for a fractured ankle, and developed SERIOUS sciattica from being off kilter with the boot too high. The walking boot was so very uncomfortable, I was in complete agony. The Tayco over the shoe brace provided some relief. I wore the regular boot for 7 weeks before getting the Tayco, not sure if the Tayco would have provided enough support the first couple of weeks, but it seems to do the trick for this stage of my recovery. I'm 57 so I heal a little slower than younger people, 10-12 weeks. Anyway, Tayco was a life saver! I still have sciattica but it is getting much better wearing an even brace with my other foot.

I ordered this brace a size smaller. Th reason is that I attached my first brace to my baseball plate shoes. The one size smaller works on my regular shoes better. Still the best brace I’ve ever worn.

It is pricey, but we like that it fits on the outside of my daughter’s street shoes. Provides great ankle support but allows more normal movement for walking.

Walking Boot and AFO Alternative - RecoverX Brace
It is easier to use than other braces and so well made. I’m still getting used to it…so I’m a little slow getting it on but it’s getting easier as I go. I had to get to know how it felt to get the straps just right (I went to right on 3 & 4 at first.) Learning curve is not steep and product is worth it.

Bought the brace at suggestion of our athletic trainer for a high school softball player who suffered a high ankle sprain. Player reported that pain decreased from an 8 to a 3. She was able to play without a performance drop off. It’s also aiding her recovery off the field. Happy Coach!

My husband was prescribed a TayCo ankle brace but his orthopedic surgeon. This is his last resort before ankle replacement surgery. The brace has saved him. He is able to exercise, play basketball with his son, help move us into our new home. All of this would have been impossible without the brace. It provides not only stability for his ankle, but significantly reduces his pain. He doesn't go anywhere without it. The bottom strap broke and a new brace was shipped immediately. Not only is this a fantastic product, the customer service is the best we have ever experienced. Thank you, TayCo, for all you have done to give my husband back his mobility and extend the life of his ankle.

I've overturned my ankle approximately 200 times in my life since the age of 14.
I'm now 60 and a year ago I had the final turn to where my only option I was told was surgically and most likely to have a post because of the extensive damage would not be able to be repaired. That would mean no forward/backward movement. Being an active woman between working all day on my feet and hiking mountains I started searching for a better solution. BAM, I found this brace on the internet and said I'd give it a try. Now year later I'm finally giving my review. 1 year of walking on hot tar patch, graveled stones at work and many of mountains and trails, through rock salt, snow, ice melt and even walking in rivers this brace kept up with me. I can't say that about the 3 pairs of work and hiking boots I went through while wearing this brace. I will be wearing this brace for the rest of my life. No surgery needed and living life to it's fullest!!! Can't say much more than that but THANK YOU Taycobrace
