Vijay Thangamani grew up in rural West Michigan a big Detroit Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Pistons fan along with the Michigan Wolverines. His collegiate allegiances changed while attending the University of Notre Dame. His interests in sports medicine began there as a student athletic trainer.
He returned to Michigan for medical school and subsequently completed an orthopaedic surgery residency at Northwestern University in Chicago. After residency, Vijay made his way East to Boston for a orthopaedic sports medicine fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital where he was assistant team physician for the Boston Celtics and Tuft University, also serving as a clinical assistant professor in orthopaedic surgery.
Vijay returned to Chicago and has been practicing in the Western Suburbs. His clinical interests include all things sports and work related, particularly arthroscopic surgery. He, his wife, and 2 children live in Hinsdale, IL. They are converted Chicago sports teams fans and enjoy skiing and golf.
